NEED

New Data for the Energy Transition

Duration: 01.09.2023 - 31.08.2027

The NEED platform is designed to enhance the efficiency of data ecosystems. Utilizing ontologies, it streamlines the integration of diverse energy-related data sources, ensuring consistent connections across various sectors, as well as temporal and spatial dimensions. Rather than supplanting existing platforms, the NEED platform integrates them, while also developing strategies to address data gaps by generating synthetic data from current datasets.

Serving as a robust, user-friendly, and adaptable tool, the NEED platform facilitates energy planning across different spatial scales. It aids planning offices and municipalities by providing access to integrated data via semantic queries, thus optimizing and hastening energy planning processes.

The RIM research group spearheads the third of seven work packages titled "Identification and explication of conventional data sources". This package encompasses a thorough identification, classification, and assessment of energy-relevant data. The aim is to construct an ontology based on this research, facilitating the evaluation of data for integration into the NEED platform.
